Emirates Airlines based in UAE is the world’s largest airline in the Middle East and one of the country’s two flag carriers. From its hub at the Dubai International Airport (DXB) the airline operates non-stop flights to more than 140 destinations in 78 countries. It is one of the few airlines that flies to six continents. The airline’s fleet of aircraft consists primarily of three-class cabin configurations (First Class, Business Class, and Economy Class) as well as some two-class aircraft (Business Class and Economy Class). As of February 2019, Emirates is the largest Airbus A380 operator with 112 aircraft in service and a further 11 on order.

Entertainment system

In-flight entertainment system

All three classes feature a personal in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on Emirates aircraft. There are two types of entertainment system on Emirates: ICE and ICE Digital Widescreen.

Information, Communication, Entertainment (ICE)


ICE provides passengers with a direct data link to BBC News. ICE is the first IFE system to be connected directly to automatic news updates. Exterior cameras located on the aircraft can be viewed by any passenger, through the IFE system, during takeoff, cruise, and landing.


ICE has a link to an in-flight email server that allows passengers to access, send or receive emails for US$1 per message. ICE also supports a seat-to-seat chat service.


The ICE system includes movies, music, and video games. ICE offers over 600 on-demand movie titles, over 2000 video on demand and prerecorded television channels, over 1000 hours of music and over 100 video-game titles. ICE can be accessed in more than 40.

Standard Meals

All Emirates flights have at least one meal service time. The menu usually contains a Western-style meal menu along with a Middle Eastern or Asian-style meal menu, depending on where the flight is departing from and arriving to.

Diet-Based Meals

Passengers with special dietary restrictions and food allergies are carefully catered to. Order the strict vegetarian (vegan) or Lacto-Ovo vegetarian meal if you do not eat meat. Lactose-free and gluten-free meals are available respectively.

Religious Restrictions

Meals specially prepared for Hindu, Muslim, and Jain vegetarians are also served aboard Emirates. These meals are served in accordance with specific practices in each community.

Children’s Meals

Both vegetarian and meat-eating children have special meal options available to them on Emirates as well. Parents can order kids’ meals for 2- to 12-year-old children.

Ethnic Vegetarian Meals

Lacto-Ovo vegetarians can order an Asian vegetarian dish, strict vegetarians have the option of ordering an Oriental vegetarian meal, vegetarians who eat fish may also wish to order the seafood meal.

Birthday cakes and champagne meals to celebrate special occasions onboard must be ordered in advance.

First Class

There are two types of first-class seating; the fully enclosed suite with a ceiling to floor door and a private suite with doors that close but don’t extend to the ceiling. Both suites come complete with closing doors to ensure privacy, a mini-bar, a coat rack, and storage.

Business Class

Business-class on Boeing 777-200 LRs and Boeing 777-300 ERs feature seats with a 1.5-meter-long (60 in) pitch that recline to 2-metre-long (79 in), angled lie-flat beds. Amenities include massage function, privacy partition, winged headrest with six-way movement, two individual reading lights and an overhead light per seat, in-seat power supply, USB Ports and an RCA socket for laptop connection, over 600 channels of entertainment on ICE, shown on a 17 in-wide (43 cm) TV screen.

Premium Economy Class

These seats are also set to be fitted on the airline’s Airbus A380s around 2020-2021 and Boeing 777-300ERs. Multiple sources theorize that the seats may be HAECO’s Eclipse Cabin, while others speculate that they may be more “conventional” ones, but it is still unknown what seat type the airline will use.


Economy Class

Emirates Economy class offers a 79–81-centimetre-long (31–32 in) seat pitch on Airbus aircraft and 86 cm (34 in) on Boeing aircraft and standard seat width. The seat features adjustable headrests, a 3000 channel ICE In-Flight-Entertainment and in-seat laptop power-outlets on newer aircraft and laptop recharging facilities in galleys in older aircraft. There is an additional recline on A380 Economy class seats.

There are 33 Emirates lounges in 32 cities accessible by First and business class passengers, and Skywards Platinum and Gold members. Skywards Silver members can use the lounges at Dubai Airport only.

Baggage allowance

The economy class allows one free baggage allowance. First and Business class allows one briefcase; plus one handbag or the handbag can be replaced by a garment bag. No item may exceed 7 kg (15 lbs).

Musical instruments can be brought on board as hand luggage, or a seat can be purchased for larger instruments.

Lost and Damaged Baggage:

If your baggage has been damaged in transit, you need to file a claim before you leave the airport by approaching the nearest Emirates representative or the baggage services desk. If you have left the airport without filing a claim, you must contact your local Emirates office within seven days in writing. Occasionally, a bag may be delayed and subsequently delivered in a damaged state. In these cases, please contact Emirates.
